As
a good step in the right direction, the Lagos State Government has announced
its plan to give free medical treatments to all children under 12 years living
with the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in the state. Dr. Eniola Erinosho, Director
of Disease Control, Lagos State, made this disclosure to Journalists during the
World Sickle Cell Day, commemorated recently all around the world.
Erinosho
who described the period between 0-12 years as the most prevalent in SCD
crisis, said the state is ready to give succour to the parents of these
children at such challenging time.
Furthermore,
he noted enlightenment campaign in secondary schools and through the media as
key component of the policy, to create the awareness of the disorder among
young persons who are yet to be committed to marital issues, in order for them
to make the right choices in life.
“We have finalised the treatment guideline for
the management of Sickle Cell Disorders and machinery has also been put in
place towards developing a comprehensive state policy on Hemoglobinopathies. A
key component of this policy would be support for enlightenment activities at
all levels with particular emphasis on young persons who are yet to be committed
in marriage to their partners”, he stated.
#Change in the right direction.
