Hmmn…
this could pass as the new year’s rudest shock to many, as I’m experiencing
just now, but the scientists have made their discovery anyway. A team of researchers
from California University have found
that a running tap could harbor over 20 times germs more than one can find in a
decent toilet.
The
reports as published in the Journal Microbiome, revealed the amazement of the
researchers, who were shocked to find that tap water is an overlooked source of
microbes, releasing a significant amount of bugs into the air.
The
scientists who were out to investigate objects or areas in our homes that breed
the most bacteria that is then released into the air that we breathe, took
samples from kitchen surfaces, carpets, pets, bathroom tiles, shower heads,
toilets and the people who lived there.
And
it was found that the kitchen where most delicacies are made, also produce the
army of bugs that could outnumber, those in the toilet by 20 times.
They
also discovered that the next biggest source of bacteria was air from outside
the home, Some 17 per cent of germs came into homes this way, as people in
California keep their windows open in the heat.
The
study also found the number of bacteria increased significantly in homes that
were ventilated frequently, as well as those with more family members, and
where residents were more active.
A word is enough for the wise, beware of
running tap water.
