President Jonathan Advises Young Professionals To Be Self Reliant

Stop looking for white collar jobs - Jonathan tells graduates
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday advised graduates who just concluded their national service to the nation to stop looking for white collar jobs. Rather, Jonathan implored them to focus their minds towards self reliance and wealth creation.

The president’s speech, which was read by the Ondo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development,  Alhaji Yekini Olanipekun, at the passing-out ceremony of the 2012 Batch ‘A’ corps members in Akure, said his administration introduced skills acquisition programmes to make Nigerian youths self employed.

“The present administration remains focused on youth empowerment, which will be pursued using the platforms of the Sure-P; You Win and other programmes. I therefore implore you to cooperate and support this administration to reduce the current level of unemployment,” he said.

He added that the Federal Government, under an arrangement with the United Nations Development Programme will recruit young professionals that will work on a variety of UN programmes.
The NYSC coordinator in the state, Mr. Isiaka Kuoye, also advised the out-going corps members to learn skills that will make them self reliant.

He said 12 out of the 1, 946 corps members, who had proved themselves to be worthy ambassadors, will receive awards and commendations from the agency.
