In an interview with the Associated Press,
Cardinal Peter Turkson, the top favourite for Benedict’s replacement
said that it was time the world had a Pontiff from the developing world.According to him, “the “young churches” of Africa and Asia have now become solid enough that they have produced “mature clergymen and prelates that are capable of exercising leadership also of this world institution.”
Turkson also added that the third world is already doing great with a European pontiff and does not require a third world pope to flourish.
