Although it
was supposed to be a good news to all and sundry that the proposed Anchor
University, sponsored by The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has finally
received endorsement by the Federal Government yesterday, but the reverse was the
case.
The Deeper
Life University, which topped the list of 8 Varsities appended by the
government yesterday, has been criticized profusely by FaceBook users for
reasons best known to them.Read their comments below:
The Minister
of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka listed the newly approved
varsities as follows: Anchor University, located in Ayobo, Lagos State and
promoted by Deeper Christian Life Ministry; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo,
Cross River State, promoted by Clitter House Nigeria Limited; Clifford
University, Owerrinta, Abia State, promoted by Seventh Day Adventist Church;
and Coal City University, Enugu, promoted by African Thinkers Community of
Inquiry College of Education, Enugu.
Others are: Crown-Hill University, Eiyenkorin, Kwara State, promoted by Modern Morgy and Sons Limited; Dominican University, Ibadan, promoted by Order of Preachers, Nigerian Dominican Community; Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, promoted by Kola Daisi Foundation; and Legacy University, Okija, promoted by The Good Idea Education Foundation.
The critics who cited affordability, geographic location, denominationalism, educational standard, etc., as factors for their disapproval of the development, probably expected more from the government and DCLM than this.Read their comments below

“The problem
I'll have with DCLM is after they started, they begin to behave like Covenant
and Co... .I reserve my comments and congrats to them. Deeper LifeHqtrs”

“Just
yesterday, eight new universities were approved. You know what: all in the
South! What are the hailers having in store for the North? I think, sentiment,
ko? Pity. No agenda, no think-tank. No nothing but eulogy and naivety. It will
take us anywhere oo! Ehe!”

“Universities
in Nigeria are not for Innovations and Inventions but for show of landed
Properties! There would not be improvement on standard of Education as the
Founders are not Kernels! They go for monies!!!”.
ALBERT OIKELOME: ON THE PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES
“A few days
ago, the Federal government approved 8 private Universities for the country.
The first thought that came to mind is 'for who'? Private universities for the
rich and wealthy or private universities for the poor and downtrodden? The last
time I checked, nothing 'private' actually benefits the low income earners.
That is why they will continue to struggle for the little space available in
public universities.
“But the
rich and wealthy? They have an alternative beyond measure now. Kick them them
out of the public space and they go to private institutions with cool cash to
get their inheritance. Even the scorlaship scheme initiated by some of the
private institutions are so few and inadequate.
“So, do you
expect me to roll out the drums now that private institutions are everywhere? I
will on one condition... that the institutions are affordable to all, irrespective
of your financial status”.
Although
some of them didn’t mention Anchor overtly, but you can read between their
lines.
Do you agree
with these critics? Your take on this development is crucial please.
