Thrills, Anxiety, As US Elections Begin Today

President Barrack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney will today return to their home state as voting begins after many months of campaigns, debates and political intrigues.
From Chicago, the hometown of President Obama, to Massachusetts, the hometown of Governor Mitt Romney, there will be thrills and anxiety as the elections begin, final vote is casted and the election results are announced.

While Obama is proposing a ‘Middle-income upward approach to building the economy, his Republican challenger, Romney, is proposing a ‘Top-down economic approach thereby making two economic paths for the electorates to choose.

The candidates have also put the electorates in the dilemma of choosing either a ‘Comprehensive Federal Government healthcare programme’ or ‘State by State strategized healthcare system’.

Others are an economy that would see more tax burden on the high-income earners or levelled tax system for all levels. A choice between more cuts on military spending and less cuts on military spending.

This is one election that has more undecided voters in political history and they would just go out to vote who they like not necessary what the candidates stand for.

Fuelled by record spending on negative ads, the battle between the two men was focused primarily on the lagging economic recovery and persistent high unemployment, but at times it turned personal.
Obama accused his opponent of suffering from ‘Romnesia” due to his change in what he intends to do if elected.
Since then the ‘Romnesia’ word has been used on ads and even twitter comments about the perceived inconsistencies of the Governor Romney campaign trail.

Governor Romney said he wants to take America back to the path of leadership because the country, he believes, is  heading the way of Greece under ‘Obama’,  and the time has come to reclaim those great values of the nation.

At the climax of this election came the Hurricane Sandy which Political pundits believe should not adversely affect the voting process in states hit like New Jersey as provisions has been made by the electoral commission.
Polls will begin to close in Indiana and Kentucky at 6 p.m. EST (2300 GMT) on Tuesday, with voting ending across the country over the next six hours.

The first results, by tradition, were tallied in Dixville Notch and Hart’s Location, New Hampshire, shortly after midnight (0500 GMT). Obama and Romney each received five votes in Dixville Notch. In Hart’s Location, Obama got 23 votes to 9 votes for Romney and two votes for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.

The close presidential race raises fears of a disputed outcome similar to the 2000 election between Alan Gore and George W. Bush Jnr, which was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Both campaigns have assembled legal teams to deal with possible voting problems, challenges or recounts.

The presidential contest is now likely to be determined by voter turnout – specifically, what combination of Republicans, Democrats, white, minority, young, old and independent voters shows up at polling stations.

Obama and Romney raced through seven battleground states on the final day of campaigning to hammer home their final themes, urge supporters to get to the polls and woo the last remaining undecided voters.

Romney, the multimillionaire former head of a private equity fund, would be the first Mormon president and one of the wealthiest Americans to occupy the White House. Obama, the first black president, is vying to be the first Democrat to win a second term since Bill Clinton in 1996.
