Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State cut short his visit to Imo State on Sunday so that he could mark the 79th post-humous birthday of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu with internally displaced persons at flood relief camps in Anambra State.
There were also church services in the state where prayers were said for the repose of Ojukwu’s soul.
Obi, who was at the Anglican Diocese of Egbu, near Owerri for its Synod, visited five camps in Umueje, Umueri, Agulueri and Onitsha when he returned to Anambra State on Sunday.
He said the visit would continue on Monday to cover the 23 camps in the state.
The visits were characterised by prayers by the clergy, cutting of cakes and cash distribution to the internally displaced persons in the camps.
Obi said the idea to celebrate the birthday at the camps was in line with the life of Ojukwu.
